Valdosta Police/GBI search for burglars

December 28, 2006

Valdosta - Valdosta Police and Investigators with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are looking for suspects they believe are involved in a string of burglaries throughout Georgia and North Florida.

They say last Thursday night, several people broke into the steels jewelry store in Valdosta.

Store employees say the crooks made off with thousands of dollars of merchandise.

Police say details from the break-in caused them to suspect the burglary may be related to other burglaries from North Florida to Middle Georgia.  "What we've seen in this area is some of the commercial burglaries are closely related in regards to operation wise and how they were committed, they are closely related to these burglaries," says Capt. Brian Childress with the Valdosta Police.

Police say they have several leads and are optimistic they will be able to put the burglars behind bars.

Ahead of heavy rain showers and winds projected for our area, the Georgia State Patrol said there's not as many travelers on the roads during this holiday weekend.  "So far I think this attributed to the weather and gas prices being so high, it seems that in our area of the state, traffic has been down some," said Trooper Christopher Jewell, GSP Post 40.
