Knives found at two Tifton schools

December 27, 2006

Tifton - Police in Tifton are investigating elementary and high school students accused of taking knives to school.

Police reports say the principal of Charles Spencer Elementary School found a knife in the purse of a 12 year-old female student last Thursday.

A teacher told police she heard the student was carrying the knife as protection from other students, but the student said the knife must have been placed in her bag the night before without her knowledge.

She has been placed under house arrest until the investigation is complete.

Earlier that week, police arrested 17 year-old Antivous Davis for bringing a knife to Tift County High.

Police say when a teacher asked Davis to tuck in his shirt, they noticed a knife clipped to his belt.

Davis is charged with carrying a concealed weapon on school property.
