Salvation Army's red kettles are successful

December 22, 2006

Albany -- The familiar ringing of the Salvation Army red kettle campaign will end this weekend. Saturday will be the last chance for you to donate to this year's holiday fundraiser.

Organizers are pleased with the community support. So far they've raised more than $125,000. That's more than last year and means the Salvation Army met its goal.

"We're just helping so many people. Such a simple thing, it's brainless. We stand out here, we ring the bell. We know that ever penny people put in really makes a difference, makes it very worthwhile," said Janice Hood.

Money from the fundraiser will go toward daily meals for the needy, shelter operations, and helping people through the holidays.
