Albany - - Kwanzaa begins the day after Christmas, but students at one middle school got a head start on the celebration.

Radium Springs Middle School of the Arts presented its Holiday Showcase of the Arts tonight. Drama students presented "A Kwanzaa Story", while other groups in the fine arts departments showed their talents.

Orchestra, chorus, dance, and band students worked hard to prepare for the event. School staff say they're especially proud since this is the first year Radium Springs has been a middle school of the arts.

"We'd like for this to be a recruitment to get the community excited about supporting our fine arts magnet at the middle school level," says Band Director Kimberly Thompson.

Kwanzaa begins December 26th and ends January 1st.
