Albany - The owner of the Heritage House Hotel is asking for a helping hand from the city of Albany. Marvin Baptiste bought the hotel and is in the process of gutting it. There's just one problem with all of the left over debris--it has to be hauled away and that costs a lot of money.
Baptiste is asking the city commission to help him get rid of that debris, by providing containers and asking the county to waive tipping fees at the landfill. Baptiste says he plans to turn the old hotel into a building that will target colleges and universities in the area. Commissioners told him to provide them with more detailed information before they'll make any plans to help him out financially.
The city would be waiving about $160,000 by cleaning up the debris.
