Process begins to recall Lee County Commissioner Jo Ealum

December 11, 2006

Leesburg- The process to recall Lee County Commissioner Jo Ealum has started Monday afternoon.  Monday Bill Mitchell, the chairman of the "Jo's Gotta Go" campaign, delivered the petitions with 150 signatures to the Lee County election office. The group only needed 100 registered voter signatures to launch the recall. The committee said getting those signatures was easy.

"We're very pleased with the outcome and the fact that we've got quite a few more signatures that we have not disclosed yet, so we're well on the way for stage two if we get to that point," said Bill Mitchell, "Jo's Gotta Go" Chairman.

Jo Ealum has four days to get a Superior Court Judge to challenge the reasoning for the recall.

"Miss Ealum has the right within four days to go ahead and request that a Superior Court Judge determine whether there's legal sufficiency based on the reasons that the committee provided for recall," said Veronica Johnson, Lee County Election Supervisor.

WALB News Ten spoke with Jo Ealum Monday afternoon who is in Athens taking final exams at the University of Georgia. Ealum plans to speak with a Superior Court Judge this week. The election board will meet a week from Monday to certify the signatures.
