Clinch Co. Counting on Tradition

December 8, 2006

Homerville -- Playing in the Georgia Dome is nothing new for the Clinch County football team.

The Panthers have played in the state semi-finals five out of the last six years.

The senior class is making it's third trip to the Dome, and have hopes of matching the state championship they won in 2004.

Clinch County has won four state titles overall, and are hoping tradition and experience will play a big role against an Athens Academy team that has never played in the Dome.

The Panthers will face the Spartans at 9 o'clock Saturday morning, but head coach Jim Dickerson says the early start will have no affect on his team.

"When you walk in that dome, you don't know if it's 9 AM, or 9 PM," says Dickerson. "It's the same 24 hours a day. Being on the road I would almost rather play early. We'd play at 6 AM if we had to."

Senior Christopher Davis says, "We've played early in the morning every year, so we're prepared for that. Most teams when they first get there they are jittery and stuff. We've been there before, so we're more relaxed, but we're still excited."

Clinch County takes on Athens Academy Saturday at 9 AM in the Georgia Dome.
