Albany- The Albany area Chamber of Commerce supports the widening of Highway 133 between Albany and Moultrie, but a state Senator plans to expand that request in Altanta.
At the Chamber's Legislative breakfast Wednesday morning, Senator Michael Meyer Von Bremen said he'll push to 4-lane the highway from Albany all the way to Valdosta. While he expects the expansion to be difficult for people who live along the highway, Meyer Von Bremen said it's necessary to grow business in south Georgia.
"The connection of Albany to I-75, feeding into Florida more directly going straight into Valdosta will be critical I think for attracting industry and retaining the industry we have or expanding the industry we have," said Sen. Michael Meyer Von Bremen.
The Senator also said it's a safety issue. More motorists are killed on heavily traveled two-lane roads than four-lane highways.
