Albany--  Post offices are extra busy this time of year handling all of your holiday deliveries.

The US Postal Service expects to deliver 20 billion cards, letters and packages between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Albany's main postal branch is the busiest post office in south Georgia.

Workers remind you to get your items out early to ensure delivery by Christmas. Domestic packages should be mailed by December 13th, first class by the 20th and express mail by December 23rd. Postal workers are ready to handle the rush.

"We bring in extra staff. It's called Christmas casuals. We work a lot of overtime. We're here processing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the plant," said General Manager David Gunnoe.

Also remember to wrap your packages correctly and pack batteries separate from toys and gadgets because any humming or buzzing packages will be opened and sent back to you. The busiest day at the post office will be December 18th.
