Second bank robbery in two weeks

December 4, 2006

Albany - Another carjacking and bank robbery in East Albany Monday morning. But this time, the robber was caught.

Just after Security Bank on East Oglethorpe opened, a masked gunman robbed the bank. Sheriff's deputies, out serving warrants, heard the lookout for the suspect, who had also carjacked a blue Dodge Neon from Hidden Oaks apartments.

They saw the car and began chasing the suspect, who jumped out and tried to run away from the deputies, but they tackled him and turned him over to Albany Police.

APD has not released the man's name, and won't even acknowledge having anyone in custody. Regions Bank on Sylvester Road, just a few blocks away from Security Bank, was also robbed two weeks ago.

Police were looking for 26-year-old Kelvin Montrez Leroy for questioning in that case, though they did not refer to him as a suspect.
