Valiants love underdog role

November 30, 2006

Mineola - It is a feeling in Valdosta with Valdosta State, Lowndes and Valdosta High all failing to make the playoffs.

But there is still one team that has a chance to bring another state title back to Winnersville.

The Valwood Valiants will play at Trinity Christian Friday night in Dublin in the GISA's AA state championship game.

The Valiants, who won the Class A state title in 1999, have gotten hot at the right time.

After a 3-3 start, Valwood has won five of their last six games.

Some players believe the turning point was a 24-0 loss in the regular season to the same Trinity Christian team they will play tomorrow night.

Valwood got some revenge in the semifinals with a win over an Edmund Burke team who also beat the Valiants earlier in the season.

Head coach Mike Patrick "We are a huge underdog going into this game. We are just going to try to suck up and be tough and be the underdog and pull the big upset."

The GISA AA state title game starts at 7:30p.m. Friday night in Dublin.

The AAA state championship game in Americus between Southland and Tattnall Square will kick at 7:30p.m.

Thomas Jefferson plays at Flint River in the Class A title game in Woodbury.
