Blue Devils show they can score points

November 29, 2006

Tifton - Region 1-AAAAA lived up to his preseason hype during the high school football regular season.

And the quality of teams from that region has shown in the state playoffs.

Three of the eight remaining teams in AAAAA are from region one.

And leading the way is the region champion Tift County Blue Devils.

The Blue Devils will be back at home Friday night against North Gwinnett.

The Bulldogs was the runner-up in region 7-AAAAA which also has three teams in the quarterfinals.

Tift County has relied on defense and a strong kicking game for much of this season.

But it was the offense with 333 passing yards that led the way to a second round win over Union Grove.

And if the Blue Devils can get that kind of production the rest of the postseason, then Tift County just might be celebrating a second state title in three weeks.

Head coach Jay Walls said "It is going to help you win the big games. It is going to help you in these games where people are pretty good defensively. If you have to have that big play ability, you are going to try those deep shots."

The winner earns a trip to the Georgia Dome for the state semifinals.

The game will kick at 8:00 p.m. on Friday night in Tifton.
