CJ students learn real forensics

November 27, 2006

Albany --  TV crime scene investigation shows are popular, but sometimes not realistic.

Criminal Justice students at Darton College got the real facts on crime scene investigations today from local professionals.

Sophomore Katie Barnhart says she was surprised to learn that getting a fingerprint isn't as easy as it looks on TV.

"I thought like anyone, that it takes instantly," said Barnhart. "You rub the powder and you get it instantly, but I guess some of those prints take a lot longer than others."

Students also learned about how difficult it is to obtain DNA, and how video surveillance can be utilized in a jury trial to present evidence in a case.
