Albany -- Former Albany Police officer Demetria Gaskins was sentenced to five years' probation Monday by Judge Loring Gray.
Gaskins was found guilty on four counts of financial identity fraud, and one count violation of oath of office, but not guilty on five counts of theft of service in her October trial.
She was accused of stealing Social Security numbers and opening cell phone accounts at Alltel.
Dougherty Superior Court Judge Loring Gray said that he had concerns about the evidence in the case, and therefore granted Gaskins five years of probation, required her to surrender her POST certification, and to pay almost $3,000 in restitution to Alltel and to a Pennsylvania woman whose Social Security number she used to get five Alltel telephones.
Gaskins, a nine year veteran with the Albany Police Department, was fired in June 2005 after her indictment.
