VSU receiver is GSC's top freshman

Valdosta - Valdosta State receiver Cedric Jones has been named the Gulf South Conference's freshman of the year.

The former Ware County Gator led the conference in yards and receptions per game.

He was also second in touchdown receptions.

Cedric Jones is the second Blazer to win the GSC's freshman of the year award.

Receiver Randy Fisher won the award 20 years ago.

Joinnig Jones on the GSC's first team are defensive lineman Travis Harrison, defensive back Sherard Reynolds and defensive back Shawn Harris makes the squad for his special teams play.

Sherard Reynolds is probably the first and only player in college football history to make the first and second team on the same all-conference squad.

Reynolds is a second-team selection for his special teams work.

Quarterback Willie Copeland and linebacker William Montford were also second-team selections.
