Thomas County court is broke

November 15, 2006

Thomas County- The magistrate court in Thomas county is out of money.  County commissioners allocated $15,000 this year to pay its assistant magistrate judge. Their budget ran short because of an increase in weekly hours.

"I don't know what his case count was but I know that in 2004 the assistant magistrate averaged about 20 hours a week and in 2005 it jumped up to 26 hours and so far this year its running 34 hours a week," says Mike Stephenson, Thomas County manager.

The Thomas County commission approved the magistrate court's request for an additional $3,500 to finish out the year.
