Truck fire snarls traffic

November 13, 2006

Albany -- A big rig fire on the Liberty Bypass in Albany snarled traffic early Monday morning.

Around 6:30 AM, firefighters were called to put out a fire in the tractor trailer on the Bypass at Nottingham Way. Firefighters say it appears the fire started in the rear tire area of the tractor, but are not sure what caused it.

The blaze spread to the trailer just above the tractor tires, but did little damage to the contents inside.

The truck belongs to Star Transport and is licensed in Illinois. The driver, Roderick Brown, was not injured.

Firefighters were not sure what the truck was hauling, but estimated the damage at 15-thousand dollars.
