Police investigate two carjackings, two armed robberies

November 9, 2006

Albany -- Albany Police are looking for gunmen who went on a frightening crime spree tonight, two carjackings and two armed robberies all within one hour.

One of the victims says she's fed up with crime. Sixty-four year old Laura Davis has lived in her East Albany apartment for two years now, and she says it's never been a dangerous place before she was carjacked at gunpoint.

Davis says she got home from running errands around seven Thursday night. When she got out of her car at Quail Call Apartments on Briarwood a man with a gun jumped out of a white four-door Mercury sedan parked a few spaces down.

He demanded her car keys and threatened to shoot her. The carjacker took off in Davis's car. She says the white Mercury followed him.

"I said 'Somebody help. I'm being robbed!' and they trying to take my car. And he pulled a gun on me, and I should have fought back, but I didn't," said Laura Davis.

Police are also investigating an armed robbery that happened at the Domino's Pizza and Connie's Liquor Store in the 2200 block of East Oglethorpe.

After those robberies there was another carjacking at the Heritage Bank, also on East Oglethorpe.

Laura Davis's 1997 Honda Accord was registered in Dougherty County. The license tag is 988 ALZ.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crimestoppers at 436-TIPS.

Police are still investigating, but they believe all those crimes may be related.
