Blazers still need help to make playoffs

November 8, 2006

Valdosta - Valdosta State closes out their regular season Thursday night at West Georgia.

The Blazers are wanting to recapture the Peach Basket that the Wolves won last seasonfor the first time since the trophy became part of the rivalry five years ago.

If the Blazers knock off the 1-8 Wolves, they will return to Valdosta this weekend hoping to get the help they will likely need to make the Division II playoffs for a seventh straight year.

Head coach Chris Hatcher believes his team can make a national championship run if they get into the playoffs.

But he believes the sixth and final spot the Blazers currently hold will go to an Albany State team the Blazers beat during the regular season.

Hatcher said"When you get into those playoffs, as we know first hand anything can happen. The big thing right now is you just got a 7-3 Albany State team who we defeated that could possibly kick us out right now."

Valdosta State plays West Georgia in the final Gulf South Conference Thursday night television game of the week.
