Mitchell County-- Workers at a South Georgia chicken plant voted on a new contract today they say is fair for all of the company's employees.

Workers at the former Cagle Chicken plant, now known as the Equity Group, met with their labor union representative today.

At first, many of the employees felt the company's proposed renewal contract didn't accommodate the needs of the workers.

So today, they drafted a wish-list of things they want in the contract, including flexible time off for personal days.

"We had them but now we can take them all together. We don't have to just take them around our birthday, you can take it anytime during the year," says employee Linda Hall.

Union members say they voted to give more employees raises and a $2.00 pension increase.

They also want workers in the sanitation department to be paid on an hourly basis rather than salary, since they say many of them are called back in to work during the weekends to work extra hours.

A representative from the company said they would comment Thursday.
