Albany -- The best cross-country runners in Region One AAA took the course at Robert Cross Middle School Saturday morning.
Westover's Shyam Patel and Stuart Darsey battled to the finish.
Patel will cross the line in seventeen minutes and 12-seconds to win the region championship, one second ahead of his teammate.
The Patriots actually take the top three spots, with Jacob Riggins placing third. All-in-all, Westover captured seven of the top ten spots, easily taking the region title.
Cairo finishing second and Monroe third. On the girls side Sekelia Anthony took the top spot for the Lady Tornadoes, over a full-minute ahead of the rest of the field.
Cairo's LaCourtney Alexander and Westover's Gianna Palazzolo placing second and third.
A strong overall showing by the Lady Patriots will earn them the region championship, followed by Cairo and Dougherty.
The state cross-country championships are next weekend at Carrollton high school.
