Albany -- Skilled workers for service industries are in high demand, and schools like Albany Tech are expanding to accommodate them.
The current culinary arts kitchen, constructed in 1972, accommodates 25 students. With three times that many enrolled in the program now, Albany Tech is planning a 40,000 square foot expansion.
The building will house a new state of the art kitchen. It will also include programs for distance learning programs, manufacturing support jobs and enhanced logistics training for the Marine Base.
"The service industry jobs, also construction, manufacturing support and healthcare, but building K will certainly allow us to serve the hospitality better than we have been," says Albany Tech President Dr. Anthony Parker.
The hope is that construction will begin in about a year. The Carlton Center is also undergoing renovations to complete a state of the art facility for the construction program.
