Restaurants close in Downtown Albany

November 3, 2006

Albany -- An Albany businessman has shut the doors on three downtown restaurants, saying there were not enough customers to stay open.

Peter Studl says he has closed Hubble's, Popcorn at the Park, and Georgia Fries for the time being.

Studl said he plans to remodel Hubble's, an historic eatery originally opened in this location in 1927. He said he is putting in a new kitchen, and will re-open when he finds a new partner or owner to run it.

Studl said he shut down Popcorn at the Park and Georgia Fries on North Front Street because there was not enough foot traffic at the Riverfront Park to justify staying open.

He said he did not know if he would re-open them next spring.
