Tornadoes ready for first place battle

November 2, 2006

Albany - You mention big game on the Monroe High campus and Tornado fans start talking basketball.

The big game for Monroe is on the football field Saturday night.

Monroe is the hunt for the first ever region title which they can clinch with a win on Saturday night.

The unranked Tornadoes face 5th ranked and unbeaten Cairo on Saturday.

A Monroe win over the Syrupmakers gives the Tornadoes the region title and number one seed in the playoffs.

Cairo clinches the title with a win over Monroe and a Westover victory Friday night against Crisp County.

The Saturday night showdown features Monroe's high powered offense against a Cairo defense that has posted four shutouts in eight games and has allowed just 40 points all season.

Monroe coach Charles Truitt said "I am hoping we can generate offense by passing as well as running. Maybe they can't pinpoint one area of offense that we only able to do."

Monroe and Cairo will start at 7:30PM Saturday night at Hugh Mills Stadium.
