Authorities respond to boat in water

November 2, 2006

Albany - - Fire rescue workers took to the water today after hearing of a boat floating in the Flint River with no one in it.

Someone called 911 Thursday morning when they saw the boat. That's when Albany Police, the Fire Department, and the Department of Natural Resources arrived on the scene searching the water for any victims.

When they got there, it was a false alarm.

"We ran the registration on the boat, got in touch with the owner. She said they saw the boat yesterday afternoon up on the bank at their house. All that happened was that the river rose and the boat got carried down the river," says Ben Roberts with the DNR.

Wednesday, the Crisp County Power Commission started releasing water from its dam. Much of that water is streaming down to the Flint River.

Recent rains from the North have also increased the water level. In a few days, Georgia Power plans to release water from it's dam as well.
