Leesburg -- Lee County Commission Chairman Jackie Sizemore is giving up his seat one month before his term ends.

Sizemore resigned from the Board of Commissioners Wednesday, saying he sold his home in the Smithville Chokee District. An elected commissioner must live in the district he or she serves.

In a brief statement, Sizemore said his service has been challenging but feels he's made progress in implementing the county's impact fees.

Sizemore wanted to serve another term but lost the Republican primary in July to a newcomer, Dennis Roland.

Sizemore's term would've expired December 31st.
