
October 21, 2006 Valdosta -- Willie Copeland passed for 359 yards and two touchdowns to lead Valdosta State to a 16-14 Gulf South Conference victory over West Alabama Saturday.
The Blazers took the lead in the second quarter when Copeland connected with Derek Tharpe on a 15-yard scoring pass and Cedric Jones on a 21-yarder.
Copeland completed 37 of 51 passes in the game.
VSU was up 16-7 after Zachary Williams kicked a 31-yard field goal with 11:11 left in the third.
West Alabama then cut the lead to 16-14 with a Hail Mary pass from James Reiter to Dwiuan White with a minute to go.
Valdosta State recovered the ensuing onside kick to secure the win. The Blazers are now 6-1.
