Local government works as a team

October 19, 2006

Albany -- Albany and Dougherty County leaders got a unique lesson in teamwork today.

Administrators from the government entities meet once a year to get to know each other outside of work. The city manager says it helps the officials work together to govern the city and county better.

Today's team building exercises at Darton College included both mental and physical challenges.

"This is a continuous exercise so that our department directors know each other and we're part of one big team to provide services to people in Albany and Dougherty County also," said City Manager Alfred Lott.

"We use adventure activies to get people to start thinking about what it takes to work efficiently as a team, and then by the end of the day we apply it to wherever they are coming from," said course coordinator Michael White.

Businesses, church groups, and city organizations often use the challenge course at Darton. It helps the groups learn to function well as a team.
