Blazers ready to bounce back into win column

October 18, 2006

Valdosta - No team likes to lose.

But Valdosta State's loss at Delta State last week really didn't cost the Blazers much except for the chance at another undefeated season.

The Gulf South Conference title and a trip to the NCAA Division II playoffs are still within in reach for the Blazers.

But for Valdosta State to reach those goals they are going to have win their final four regular season games.

The next opponent is West Alabama.

The Tigers have been cellar dwellers in the Gulf South Conference until this year.

West Alabama is 2-2 in conference play.

The turnaround is due to the hiring of head coach Bobby Wallace.

Wallace won three straight D-II national titles  at North Alabama back in Chris Hatcher's playing days with the Blazers.

And the now Valdosta State head coach knows the Tigers are no longer an automatic win.

Chris Hatcher said "They are playing with alot of confidence. But I really feel good about our chances. I think our team will be ready. We have just got to bounce back from Delta State and move forward."

Valdosta State is 23-1 against West Alabama.

Blazers go for win number 24 Saturday at one o'clock at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
