Fitzgerald-- A disturbing family soap opera in Ben Hill County ends with a long prison sentence for a woman who executed her husband.

56-year old Jimmy Meritt was shot in the back of his head in his home in April 2005. He died two weeks later. A family friend even offered a $5,000 dollar reward as investigators tried to solve the mystery.

More than a month later, investigators arrested Merritt's wife and son. 54-year old Carolyn Merritt was found guilty of felony murder and was sentenced to life in prison plus five years.

The charges against the son, Calvin Merritt were dropped when investigators determined he had nothing to do with his father's death.
