Albany - The office of minority health has granted two professors at Albany State University $750,000 to set up a youth center. The grant will allow the professors to establish an after-school program that will include academic and cultural enrichment, as well as career development and wellness education.
Students will receive one on one tutoring, homework assistance and go on exciting field trips to historic sites throughout the country. Dr. Rani George says, "The purpose of the grant is to have students have new options in their life. To think about their education, their health and their future careers."
45 students will participate in the program throughout middle school. They'll be tested and compared with another group of students to see how the program impacts their lives.
