Fitzgerald-- A Ben Hill County teacher is charged with child molestation after a student reported being inappropriately touched at school.
A ninth grade female student told her mother that Junior ROTC Instructor First Sergeant James Cobb touched her during school hours last Tuesday.
The next day, Cobb was suspended from Fitzgerald High School pending an investigation into the matter. Fitzgerald Police then investigated and charged Cobb with child molestation. He was taken to the Ben Hill County Jail.
Ben Hill County School Superintendent Dr. John Key accepted Cobb's written resignation from his jail cell.
Key stated, "We wish to offer our sincere and heartfelt concern to the young lady involved in this matter, as well as her parents and family. We will ensure that she, and all of our students, are treated with dignity and compassion in this matter, and undertake and accomplish steps to ensure that there will be no recurrence, and that all of our students are afforded the safety that they deserve."
Cobb was released from jail Monday on a $5,000 bond. He may face more charges pending a complete investigation.
