Tifton --    A Tifton police officer has resigned after he was arrested for driving his patrol car drunk.

Officer Chuck Snyder was attending training in traffic accident investigation at the State Law Enforcement Training Center in Forsyth last week. State troopers say he was involved in a DUI wreck early Friday morning in his patrol car.

A witness saw the car strike signs on the side of a road and keep going.  When troopers found Snyder's vehicle and questioned him, they said he smelled of alcohol and refused to take a sobriety test.

"As we do with any and all DUIs, we interviewed the driver and it was clear he was intoxicated, the odor, the behavior, mannerisms there at the scene, enough probable cause to lead the trooper to investigate it further," says Larry Schnall of the Georgia State Patrol.

Snyder resigned from the Tifton police department later that day, according to Tifton Police Chief Jim Smith.  Snyder is charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.
