Albany -- The Albany Police Armed Robbery task force tracked down a teenager wanted for armed robbery last night. A tip from an informant led the task force to arrest 17-year-old Michael Joyner in East Albany about 8:30 Tuesday night.

Investigators say Joyner was one of "several" young men who robbed a woman walking in the 900 block of South Street Friday about midnight. Investigators say the men were in a car that approached the woman and pointed a gun at her, and took her purse.

Police say they activated their task force last night because of several armed robberies and aggravated assaults in East Albany.

"We have had several in the past two weeks.  That's the reason why we went ahead and activity this task force. We would like to be proactive rather than reactive," said APD Sgt. Keithen Hall.

Hall said they are getting help from people in that neighborhood wanting to stop the violence. Investigators are asking anyone with information about persons who might have been with Michael Joyner Friday are asked to call CRIME STOPPERS at 436-TIPS.
