Atlanta  --  The Georgia Supreme Court upheld the re-election of Fitzgerald Mayor Gerald Thompson.

Thompson defeated Prentiss Brown in a runoff last December, but the election was challenged by Johnnie Dee Swain.

The State High court upheld the lower court's ruling dismissing the election challenge siting failure of proper service on Mayor Thompson and the state election board.

Thompson is one of Georgia's longest serving mayors, having been in office about 40 years.
