Undated -- IBM announces a problem with batteries in a popular line of notebook computers.

IBM is recalling more than half-a-million laptop batteries made by SONY because they may pose a fire hazard.

The rechargeable, lithium-ion batteries are in the IBM Think-Pad notebook computers. About 168,000 were sold in the United States, the rest worldwide.

Overall, nearly seven million SONY batteries have now been recalled in recent months by various computer-makers.

Additional info: The voluntary recall of 526,000 batteries is done in conjunction with the consumer product safety commission.
