Lowndes County - Preparations are underway in Lowndes County for October's Fire Prevention Month.

The Lowndes County Fire Department was taking pictures of fire demonstrations to be shown throughout the county schools.  One demonstration shows that although water is usually associated with fire, when combined with a grease fire, it can be deadly.

They plan to present the footage, fire prevention packets, and fire hats to over 5,000 students throughout the county.  "We are getting ready for our 2006 Fire Prevention Program and what we are doing is trying to get video and stills to instill in the children so they'll go home and tell their parents not to put water on a grease fire," says Chief Jim Fielding of Lowndes County Fire and Rescue.

The proper way to put out a grease fire is using a fire extinguisher or the lid of the pan or grill.

Fire Prevention Month begins Sunday.
