Valdosta --   The City of Valdosta has brought in the newest member to its team.   The City created an Information Technology Program and has hired Steve Carter as its manager.

Carter has previously worked as a contractor for the City's IT issues. Carter will manage all IT operations as well as run fiber connections through the city, create backup programs for distaster preparedness, and work to grow the department.

"Its an opportunity for me and for the city to start out and to something Valdosta has never done before. Now its an opportunity to build the department and build it the way I feel it should be built," he said.

Carter and the City hope to hire new employees for the department as it grows.
