Atlanta  --- Albany's Lt. Governor and Democratic candidate for Governor Mark Taylor has been endorsed by the Georgia Association of Educators.

Taylor has a much smaller war chest, and lacks the bully pulpit of incumbent Sonny Perdue, and if the rank and file of the GAE follows the lead of the organization, it could mean that Taylor may gain free support where it counts most: at the voting machine.

In a press release issued this morning, Taylor says: "I am honored by GAE's continued support of my candidacy for Governor," said Taylor. "This is a critical endorsement in this race and it sends a signal to every school teacher in Georgia that there is only one candidate for Governor looking after them and our kids.  We have seen the power and influence of this endorsement before.  Georgia's teachers were instrumental in my primary win and they will be just as important now."

The Georgia Association of Educators is a professional organization of about 40,000 members. Taylor has also received the endorsement of the Georgia Federation of Teachers.

Georgia teachers voted heavily for Perdue in 2002, helping Perdue unseat incumbent Roy Barnes.
