Leesburg -- The Lee County football team is back at .500 after a convincing 31-7 win over Dougherty last week.
The Trojans will be on the road for the fourth time in five games when the make the trip to play Eufaula, Alabama Friday night, and the Tigers are a team coach David Johnson is very familiar with.
Before coming to Lee County, the Trojans head coach was the defensive coordinator at Eufaula, and coached the current Tiger seniors as freshmen.
Johnson says, "Those kids that are playing now, I coached them, so they're going to be fired up a little bit, and hopefully we can give them a good game."
Eufaula is 4-0 and the third-ranked team at the AAAAA level in Alabama.
"They've got a great bunch of athletes," says Johnson. "We have to do our job on defense and be consistent on offense, and we'll go from there."
With only four teams in their region this year, Johnson says it feels like his team has been living on the road.
"Our region doesn't have very many opportunities, so we've had to go find games," says Johnson. "Bainbridge had to go to Alabama twice. I've gone to Alabama twice to get games. It's just one of those things where you're glad you knew people there that had an open date that could fit into your schedule."
Johnson says tough games early in the season will have his team ready when it counts.
"We've played Colquitt County, which is one of the best in AAAAA. We're playing Eufaula with is one of the best in AAAAA in Alabama. It's going to get us prepared. Win or lose, it's going to get us prepared for when it counts down the road in region."
Lee County plays its first region game of the year October 20th against Bainbridge. Kick-off for Friday night's game is 8pm Eastern.
