Students compete in ASU Pageant

September 24, 2006

Albany - - Some Albany State students compete on stage vying for the title of Miss Black and Gold.

The scholarship pageant is held each year at college campuses across the country. This year, 7 young ladies competed for the title at A.S.U.

The young ladies competed in talent, swimsuit, formal wear, and interview categories. The winner will be the spokesperson for a fraternity on the campus.

"It's an honor because Alpha Phi Alpha is celebrating its centennial, 100 years of excellence so this young lady will be a representation of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc." says coordinator Robert Bowman.

Mia Francois walked away with the crown tonight. She won a $500 scholarship and will compete in Athens in January for even more money.

The winner in Athens will then compete nationally.
