Americus - - There's no more guessing about it....the Windsor Hotel in Americus is a certified Haunted Hotel. A group of paranormal investigators made the announcement today.
The Big Bend Ghost Trackers seek out and investigate haunted locations across the country. They say sometimes they find ghosts, sometimes they don't.
"We've been into old homes where people have said oh I have a ghost youve got to come in here and do something and we'd find that it was just old water pipes," says Betty Davis, the group's founder.
That wasn't the case last month, when the trackers headed to Americus. They spent the night at the Windsor Hotel and found the rumours of ghosts lurking here are true.
Pulling off an investigation like this takes work and time. Two things the Big Bend Ghost Trackers are used to. They've been doing it for six years. They use expensive gadgets like hermal scanners to detect sudden change in tempeature, electromagnetic field detecters and a voice recorder to talk to the ghosts.
"Betty was doing one in a cemetary where she knew a woman had been murdered and she asked do you know who did this and there was actually a voice on the tape that said I'm not telling," says Valynda Nichols.
As odd as it may seem, these folks take it seriously. They presented the Windsor with a plaque today to make it official. The hotel's staff see it as a good thing.
"There's a lot of places that are said to be haunted and a lot of people go to stay in those places so I think people are going to come here," says Christiane Grune of the hotel.
Because they may find a ghost.
"These are friendly ghosts, very very friendly ghosts. They love this place and this is where they want to stay forever and who wouldn't," Davis says.
It just doesn't get any spookier than this.
The Big Bend Ghost Trackers is a non-profit group who also provides ghost tours and lessons. They will begin teaching a course on ghost hunting next month at Florida State University.
Tonight, they also began investigating the Rylander Theatre for paranormal activity there.
