Housing Authority does more with less

September 22, 2006

Albany --    This year, Albany's housing Authority got a 15% cut in funding from the federal government.

Today, as part of the state's Public Housing Awareness Week, the authority held a recognition ceremony for local groups who support public housing.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and The Southwest Georgia Council on Aging were two of those groups.

Both groups help out with the authority's elderly residents. "Housing Authorities around the state of Georgia are doing different things to bring Public Housing to the fore front and one of the activities is what we've done today which is the recognition of community partners," says Executive Director Dan McCarthy.

The Albany Housing Authority was founded in 1940 and has 20 developments around the city of Albany. It houses about 2,500 people.
