Albany -- The largest minority group in the country is growing rapidly in south Georgia. Monday morning, Commission Chairman Jeff Sinyard declared September as National Hispanic Heritage month in Dougherty County.
Ana Moored is pastor of an Hispanic Church in Albany. She says in the past five years the Hispanic population in Dougherty County has nearly doubled.
That population boom has lead to more Hispanic owned businesses as well as more money being spent in the community in general.
"The Hispanic community also contributes to business, because they buy, they shop. It's good for the business, also," said Moored.
Georgia ranked third for Hispanic buying power in 2005.
