Valdosta - A three day literacy festival will promote awareness about the importance of reading and writing.

The Wiregrass Literacy and Literature Festival of the Deep South will take place in Valdosta Thursday through Saturday.  The festival will feature plays, round table discussions, academic and writing workshops as well as speeches and meet and greets with local writers.

A fair at Sam's Club Saturday will collect books for local libraries and charities.  "If you bring a book and donate it to the cause, and it will be distributed locally then you will not have to pay the membership fee that day and you can shop there," says Charlie Oliver, Co-Chair of the Festival.
