Albany -- United Way of Southwest Georgia kicked off its 2006 fundraising campaign Thursday. Their goal is one and a half million dollars.

Several hundred community leaders attended the Campaign kickoff luncheon at the Civic Center.

United Way Board Chairman Jay Smith says the needs of the people Southwest Georgia service agencies help are still great. " It's the same needs we always have. Southwest Georgia and Albany is full of great people that are caring and compassionate, and we are counting on those people to come forward. "

United Way of Southwest Georgia helps fund 39 agencies in 12 counties.
