Albany --The Albany Police Department hopes a little extra training for new police recruits will help get them on the streets quicker.
Fifteen new recruits took turns driving through a tight course made with orange cones behind the Civic Center this afternoon.
It's the first time they've gotten Emergency Vehicle Operations Course training.
A few cadets who failed the EVOC test at the police academy were back for extra training, so hopefully they'll do better the next time they're tested.
"Here we try to give them some of what to expect by giving them that experience of driving here, as well as other stuff they will face at the police academy," said Lt. Jose Miller of APD.
Training continues Thursday morning with physical fitness tests and firearms practice.
