Valdosta - A young Valdosta teen is in serious condition.

13 year-old Acquavious Core was in critical condition when he was airlifted to a hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.

Police say after several surgeries, the boy's condition improved but there is still no telling when he will be brought back to Valdosta.  "Its going to be a while. He's had a couple of surgeries. What the brother is telling me now is he's going to be there for a while recovering from some internal injuries," said Captain Brian Childress of the Valdosta Police Department.

Core was struck by 19 year-old Mallory Gay while walking to meet his school bus on Pineview Drive.

Police say Gay lost control of her vehicle and hit Core before wrecking into a ditch.  Gay has been charged with failure to maintain lanes and no proof of insurance.
