September 6, 2006 Albany -- A burglar smashed into an Albany Convenience Store by driving through the front door, and it's all caught on camera. The surveillance video shows the black Chevrolet S.U.V. smashing down the front door and window of the Oasis store on Magnolia Street. This happened around 3:00AM Tuesday.
The burglar tried first to pull open the front door with a cable attached to his bumper hitch. When that failed, he got a little running room, went between concrete barriers outside the store, and smashed his way inside.
Once inside, trying to hide his face from the cameras, he jumps the counter and steals about a dozen packs of cigarettes. He drops several packs as he runs back to his car and speeds away.
Owner Sanjey Patel says the burglar did about six thousand dollars damage, breaking his doors, windows, and wall. He had them repaired yesterday.
Police are asking for information. If you have seen this Chevrolet S.U.V., which now has obvious rear damage, or the man in the surveillance video, please call CRIMESTOPPERS at 436-TIPS.
