Albany - If there was a bright spot in Albany State's season opening loss at North Carolina Central last weekend, it was the play of linebacker Rod Cummings.
The junior from Macon was all over the field with 15 tackles.
That doesn't surprise head coach and defensive coordinator Mike White.
Rod Cummings was the leading tackler last season on ASU's Dirty Blue defense.
What may be surprising is the fact that Cummings is a defensive standout.
His older brother Robert Cummings was a four year starter at running back at Albany State where had more than 3000 yards rushing in his career and was the SIAC player of the year in 1998.
While his older brother left Albany State with holding alot of offensive school records, Rod Cummings hopes to rewrite to take a few defensive records.
Rod Cummings said "Just doing what I am supposed to at linebacker. I am supposed to make plays. I try to do that. The record books, I just play every game like it was my last and hopefully just try to do something right."
Rod Cummings isn't the only player on the Albany State roster who has an older brother who played for the Rams.
Tight end Matthew Magwood's brother Rodney was an all-American center on the 2004 SIAC championship team.
